Riparian Ecology

Location: River Tordera

Themes

This study provides a good introduction to riparian ecology along the Tordera River. Students will identify freshwater macro-invertebrates, discuss insect lifecycles, and study the environment in which these species live. Students will also measure water quality using FBILL, BWMP, QBR and ECOSTRIMED protocols, and assess the effects of human impacts, such as agricultural and industrial development, on riparian habitats. Follow-up analysis can include a range of statistical techniques, including standard deviation and Student's t-test.

Details

This study requires one full day. During the lunch break, students may have a chance to explore the small, rural village of Sant Esteve de PalauTordera.
