Location: Lake Banyoles
Themes
This study provides a comprehensive introduction to microbial
organisms, including bacteria, algae, phytoplankton and zooplankton. Students
will become familiar with various forms of microbial metabolism, such as
photosynthesis, respiration, sulphur metabolism, and iron metabolism. Students
will measure biotic and abiotic variables in several locations, compare data
between different communities, and draw conclusions about the relationships
between microbial organisms and their environment. Follow-up analysis can
include a range of statistical techniques, including standard deviation and
Student's t-test.
